The first extensive exploration of what lies undersea in American Samoa’s Exclusive Economic Zone is part of a Pacific deep sea exploration by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the first quarter of 2017.

This will be part of a three year campaign by NOAA to learn more about the depths of the ocean in the Pacific.

The exploration will be conducted on the NOAA vessel Okeanos Explorer from January to April next year.
