As of this morning the Election Office has not received any requests for a vote recount or challenges.

The results of Tuesday’s voting will remain unofficial until the 7 day deadline for any challenges is up.

Chief Election Officer Uiagalelei Dr. Lealofi Uiagalelei says they have not received a request for a recount and there have not been any challenges.

In District No. 8, Fagatogo, the incumbent representative Maugaoalii Leapai Sipa Anoai had 223 ballots, one vote behind the unofficial winner Vailiuama Steve Leasiolagi.

This is not the first time that the two candidates ended up with a one vote difference.

In a previous election the two tied and were headed for a straw vote when one conceded the election to the other.

Uiagalelei says the Election Office has not been contacted for a recount in the Fagatogo or any other election.

Asked about the Absentee Ballots which were disputed by the Faoa Sanitoa camp because they did not have receipt dates, Uiagalelei says there’s been no further discussion since the day of the election.

He says unless there’s a challenge, there’s no further action by the Election Office.

The election results would be made official next Wednesday.

Uiagalelei is thankful that the elections went very smoothly and while there were a few complaints during the day from some voting precints, it was an orderly and peaceful Election Day.
