Young Man Spends 30 Days in Jail for PPD

A young man was sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for time served in connection with a public peace disturbance conviction.

Lawrence Aleki Letuligasenoa was initially charged with underage drinking, property damage, resisting arrest and public peace disturbance.

According to court filings, the defendant in an intoxicated state went to his sister’s place and started throwing things around the house.

When told to stop, he yelled swear words at his sister, went to the roadside and started throwing rocks at moving vehicles.

In a plea agreement, the defendant pled guilty to public peace disturbance and the other charges were dismissed.

Letuligasenoa apologized and asked the court for another chance.

He said he’s learnt a lesson from being in jail and wants to put his lift on the right track.

Prosecutor Woodrow Bengally pointed out that the defendant did not remember what he did, but he has spent spent 2 months in jail.

The prosecutor said he’s hopeful  the defendant would use the chance he’s getting to reflect on his conduct.

Judge Fiti Sunia handed Letuligasenoa a suspended sentence where he will serve only 30 days in jail, and then be placed on probation for 18 months.

The defendant has been in jail for 27 days in pre trial confinement and will be released from TCF on Saturday.

He must also pay a fine of $100.

Conditiions of Letuligasenoa’s probation are that he not consume alcohol, attend alcohol counseling at the Department of Human and Social Services and remain law abiding.
