Chief of Customs Says Canneries Will Pay Scanner Fees

Will companies which are exempted from excise taxes have to pay the new scanner fees?

As far as the Chief of Customs Moetului Fuiava Sipili is concerned all importers of goods for commercial use have to pay the scanner fees which go into effect December 14.

This includes the two canneries.

As part of its tax exempt status, Starkist Samoa is exempt from paying the 5% excise tax on imports for commercial re sale, and goods and equipment used commercially.

Moetulu’i said the canneries and all businesses have to pay the scanner fees as the fees are for the protection of our borders whereas the canneries’ exemption status cover only the excise taxes
