This time next week, voters will be heading to the polls to elect a governor and lt governor, a Delegate to Congress, and 20 of the 21 members of the House of Representatives.

The faipule from Swains will be selected at an open meeting at the Election Office at 1pm this Saturday afternoon.

As of yesterday, more than 1,000 voter IDs had not been uplifted by voters.

Election Office official Fiti Tavai, asks that voters who renewed their IDs or are just being issued voter IDs for the first time to come into the Election Office and pick up their voter ID cards.

With that many voter ID cards which haven’t been uplifted, KHJ News asked Tavai if the ID owners know their ID cards need to be picked up.

Tavai said they do as they were the ones who came to the Election Office to have their ID photos taken.

He explained that if the owners don’t pick up their voter IDs by Election Day, election officials will take them to the polling places where these voters are registered to cast ballot.

Asked if that process is legal, Tavai indicated that it’s part of their job to make sure these people get their voter IDs so they can exercise their voting rights.

The Election Office asks those who have taken their IDs at the election and haven’t picked them up to please pick up- their IDs now and not wait till Election Day.
