Students Speak Their Minds at Close Up Youth Summit

An outspoken Tafuna High School senior, Aleki Skelton, has expressed his opinion on one of the issues that participants of the annual Close Up Youth Summit discussed.

Skelton, one of the student moderators for this  year’s Close Up Youth Summit said he strongly supports the current selection of senators.

But he pleaded that it is the responsibility of each district and constituents to choose leaders who are honest and  love the people of American Samoa with not just mere words but with how they conduct the affairs of our government to ensure everyone benefits and not just circles of certain people.

boatengYouth Summit official from Washington DC, Michael “Kofi” Boateng said was particularly impressed with the students knowledge of critical issues in the territory.

He explained that before coming here for the summit, they did initial research of the issues impacting American Samoa the most.

But it turned out that the issues they listed were not the ones that the students found to be the most critical needing immediate attention.
