A man who claimed a package mailed through the Post Office in which crystal methamphetamine was found last Thursday, has been charged with one count of possession of illegal substance.

Court filings say that around 2 28 Thursday afternoon, police received a call from customs requesting a methamphetamine field test kit to test a significant amount of a substance they discovered during a routine customs search of a package at the Fagatogo Post Office.

The package was a USPS mail container with an Amazon container inside.

Inside the Amazon package was a device that allowed for streaming of video over the internet, accessories and substance suspected to be crystal methamphetamine.

When police tested the substance, the results were positive for crystal methamphetamine and it weighed 1.2 ounces.

The individual who claimed the package at the Post Office was the defendant Yuseff Carter.

During questioning of Carter at the central police station, he told investigators he was expecting a package from his father in San Diego and thought it had arrived.

He said the expected package was from Amazon.

Told of the package with the illegal substance, Carter said he was expecting something from Amazon but not this kind of package.

He also stated after the methamphetamine was discovered, he did not recognize the names on the package but confirmed that the PO Box number on the package was his.

The defendant was booked and confined at the Territorial Correctional Facility Thursday afternoon and made his initial appearance in District Court this morning.

Carter, who’s held on bail of $5,000, will be back in court on November 8th.
