Candidates Pledge to Do All to Keep Canneries Here

At the Chamber of Commerce Gubernatorial Forum last week, candidates were asked about their plans to support and ensure that the canneries are sustained.

The three teams pledged their commitment to do all they could to keep the canneries here.

Governor Lolo said though the territory‘s economy has depended on the canneries for decades, when they took office there was little information available on the fishing industry in the Pacific and internationally. COC Tuika Maeva

He said in order to learn more about the canneries and the fishing industry, within the first few weeks of the Lolo Lemanu Administration, they set up a task force on fisheries to gather vital information for decision making about the canneries.

COC Faoa SanitoaLt. Governor candidate Larry Sanitoa acknowledged that after Samoa Packing closed in 2009, it was the Togiola Faoa Administration which got Tri Marine International  to set up a new plant.
