Next week, close to 2,000 employees of StarKist Samoa will not get any paychecks.
The cannery wont be in production for a whole week because there’s not enough fish, the result of limited cold storage for the local cannery and limited access to fishing grounds.
Director of Commerce and Chairman of the Shipyard Services Authority Board Keniseli Lafaele says their board, having been tasked by the governor to help StarKist, has come up with a solution to the cannery’s cold storage.

The cannery has been seeking space for a cold storage facility for now going on ten years.
