Governor Lolo wants legislation to acknowledge the Bank of Hawaii’s more than four decades of service to the government and people of American Samoa.

Instead of having the Fono draft the proposed joint concurrent resolution, Governor Lolo informed the Fono leaders in a letter that his office will write up the measure.

The governor  explained that Bank of Hawaii has now made formal notification ot its intention to close its Centennial Building branch and temporarily relocate to its Tafuna Branch, pending its full departure from the American Samoa market.

He said that the BOH’s departure marks a milestone worthy of formal recognition by the Government and the people of American Samoa.

The tribute to BOH is to be reviewed during this final regular session of the 34 legislature.

The resolution would highlight not only the bank’s long service in American Samoa but also its commitment to remain in the territory until the Territorial Bank of American Samoa commences business.

TBAS is eyeing an October 3rd opening.
