Man Charged for Assault and Detention of Wife

A man who assaulted his wife in front of their young daughter at their residence in Mesepa was in court this morning.

He allegedly punched his wife several times and dragged her around.

To prevent the victim from leaving, the man locked the doors to their house, trapping his wife inside.

According to police reports later that day the victim was able to escape and contacted the Tafuna Sub-station to request assistance regarding her husband.

Police officers arrived at the scene and met with the victim who directed them to where her husband was.

The couple was transported to the Tafuna Sub-station and there EMS was contacted to come to the station to evaluate the victim’s injuries.

The wife was taken to LBJ for further treatment.

The doctor who treated her said she sustained an abrasion on her right cheek and right side of the neck, active bleeding, bruise to the chin, and swelling on the right side of her face.

Questioning of the defendant in court revealed that he is a permanent resident alien and his wife is his sponsor.

His immigration ID expired January 7th.

District Court Judge Fiti Sunia ordered that the defendant be turned over to immigration.
