Five contestants are entered for the 2016 Miss American Samoa Pageant.
Among them will be Miss American Samoa USA who will be crowned on September 4th .
Reigning Miss American Samoa, Suluga Taliau has been working with the pageant organizers Miss American Samoa Inc. in promoting the pageant and getting young women and sponsors to sign up.
The pageant is set for Setptember 9th at the Lee Auditorium and will be based on the theme, “Samoa, Muamua le Atua.”
The first official event for the contestants is a meeting at the Matai Restaurant in Nuuuli this Satruday where MASI will announce the contestants and their sponsors as well as all those who have provided sponsorship for this year’s pageant.
The MASI President Meafou Imo says two divorcees gave strong arguments as to why they should be allowed to compete. Their strong beliefs however did not sway MASI.

The MASI president says while there are many beautiful young women, what they are missing is self-confidence and high self-esteem.
Only one contestant registered on her own having set her eye on the competition and preparing for it since the beginning of the year.
The others entered after they were approached.
The MASI President says she has received both positive and negative comments about the pageant and their organization and she gladly accepts them.
She says MASI needs the support of the community and anyone who wasnts to share their talents in organizing this year’s pageant will be welcomed.
