The Senate voted unanimously to confirm Robert Ho Chee as the first Commissioner of the Office of Financial Institutions,  a new division of Treasury which is to regulate banks, money transfer businesses and other finance ventures.

Ho Chee is now cleared for the position… the House of Representatives approved him yesterday,

The Senate vote was 15-0.

This morning Senator Laolagi Vaeao chaired a confirmation hearing of Ho chee by the  Senate Budget and Approrpriations Committee.

Senators were impressed with Ho Chee’s qualifications and had no doubts saying he was eminently qualified for the position of commissioner.

They advised the nominee  to be kind to the people, be firm in his decision making,  and not be afraid to stand up to those who want him to do something that isn’t right.

Some senators were also surprised with Ho Chee’s Samoan language skills.

Ho Chee, who was valedictorian of his graduating class at Marist Brothers High School,  said it had always been his desire  to return home after seeking knowledge and experience off island.

Now he’s returned home to serve and this is in accordance with his own father’s will.

He told senators that he will make use of their advice.

Tapaau expressed his own wishes for the senators.
