From the Rio Olympic Games, the final athletes to compete was runner Isaac Silafau and weightlifter Malietoa Tanumafili Jungblut.

Running in heat #2 in the 100 meter preliminaries, Isaac clocked in at 11.51 seconds, placing 5th out of 7 competitors.

ASNOC President Victor Langkilde says Isaac started well but ran against a strong field which fielded the fastest time in the preliminary morning races.

In the afternoon at Riocentro Pavilion 2, weightlifter Tanu competed in the 94 kg weight class division.

Tanu had a starting lift of 141 kg in the snatch, but unfortunately, was not able to successfully lift the 141 kg on all 3 attempts which led to his elimination from the clean and jerk and total lift competition,

Langkilde reports that Tanu appeared to have an easy time getting the weights up but just couldn’t hold it up for all 3 lifts.

As the Olympics wind down, Team American Samoa prepares to slowly make its way home with much to reflect on.

The ASNOC says the planning for Tokyo 2020 must start right away.

Team American Samoa thanks everyone back home from the government, churches, our people, and most of all our families.
