The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded a non-discretionary grant of $300,000 to the American Samoa Government for the Pago Pago International: Update Airport Master Plan Study.

Congresswoman Aumua Amata says it’s essential that ” our beautiful, yet geographically isolated islands have a transportation infrastructure capable of sustaining a growing and diversifying economy,”

Specifically, the grant, which was distributed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will fund phase I of II to update the existing airport master plan study to show current and future needs of the airport.

Aumua thanked Federal Aviation Administration  officials for their insight in granting these funds, which she said are greatly needed, as well as Dr. Claire Poumele, Director of the Port Administration and her team for helping to obtain this important funding
