Governor Lolo Moliga wants the Fono to amend the quorum requirement for the Immigration Board.
At present five members constitute a quorum,
But apparently that quorum has been difficult to meet and the governor says the board’s inability to secure a quorum has impeded their work.
He tells Fono leaders in his cover letter concerning the proposed amendment, in 2013 the Fono approved a bill that increased the Immigration Board from 5 to 7.
The legislation also required 5 members to constitute a quorum.
But he said unfortunately the Immigration Board encountered difficulties in securing the 5 members to perform their duties.
Therefore he’s proposing legislation to decrease the quorum requirement by one from 5 to 4.
Lolo said this amendment is warranted and reasonable and it will help to ensure that the Immigration board is able to conduct business.
