Homes and businesses in parts of the eastern end of the island experienced one of the longest power outages in a long time yesterday.

Some residents said they lost power at 11 am and it wasn’t until 2am that their power and water were restored.

An announcement from ASPA’s customer service after 7 last night said that ASPA experienced an underground fault in Laulii causing power outages to customers on the far eastern side of Tutuila.

At 12 pm yesterday ASPA crews started working to fix the fault and managed to restore power to most customers.

But by last night far flung villages were still without power and water since the water pumps need power to work.

ASPA’s announcement said the work was expected to go into the night and asked residents for their patience while crews worked to replace 1,500 feet of damaged underground power lines.

ASPA said it wanted to make sure the work is completed as safely as possible, and working in he dark was a factor.

Residents in villages, past Alofau, were informed that they would be experiencing low to no water pressure as the booster in Alofau was off due to the power outage.

Crews worked on installing a generator to the booster to push water to villages past Amouli.

ASPA informed affected residents that the work needed to complete this job will be major and the only way they would know if it is complete, is if their power was back on.
