Nurse Poiva Reid Still Working at 91

The oldest nurse who is still working was among outstanding nurses who were recognized at the awards ceremony for the Nurses Centennial Celebration today.

She is 91-year-old Mrs Poiva Reid who can be found at the OBG Clinic at LBJ Hospital.

Mrs Reid says there are no secrets to long life and shares how she’s been able to keep up with the demands of her profession all these years.

Mrs Reid who turns 92 in October believes food is the main cause of the many illnesses plaguing the community today and recommends that people be selective when it comes to food.

Speakers at the awards ceremony included Governor Lolo Moliga and the President of the American Samoa Nurses Association Mrs Tofiga Tufele,

The governor again thanked the nurses for their selfless service and said they are continuing the work that Jesus Christ did on earth in caring for the sick.

Mrs. Tufele emphasized loyalty and courage and urged nurses to stand firm and be consistent in their calling. ‘

Borrowing from the sermon of the church service which opened the centennial celebration, she said a great nurse does not fall asleep but stays alert and keeps those in her care close to her.
