Children ‘Talk Story’ in Samoan

If you see Samoan language short stories on social media, most likely the authors are participants of Samoan Technology camps hosted by the Feleti Barstow Public Library and Le Fetuao Samaon Language Center in Honolulu.

There are four sessions which teach children how to tell stories using iPads, laptops and a variety of software that make for effective story telling.

The first week long session was completed last week and the second one ends tomorrow.

Le Fetuao gives a pre test to assess the children’s Samoan language ability and their computer knowledge.

There’s also a post test to ascertain what the students have learned from the camp.

First Lady Cynthia Moliga hosted a tour of Government House on Tuesday and gave a history of American Samoa and the origins of the governor’s residence.

Acting Territorial Librarian Justin Maga says the first two sessions have been a success and the children have been eager to learn.

There are two sessions left, next week and the following week and Maga says there are a few slots open.

Maga extends his gratitude to Le Fetuao for partnering with the library to launch this innovative program, to the Feleti Barstow Board of Directors for giving the green light and to the First Lady for being a gracious host.
