Tausani Airlines Still Waiting for an FAA Inspection

The president of Tausani Airlines, which was incorporated two years ago to begin flights to the Manu’a islands, says they are still waiting for the Federal Aviation Administration to inspect their government leased aircraft, Segaula, and their operation.

According to airline president Filifaatali Mike Fuiava the refurbished Britten Norman Islander aircraft is ready for  inspection.

ASG took back the aircraft from Inter Island Airways, doing business as Manu’s Ai,  after that company’s plans to begin commercial flights between Tutuila and Manu’a never materialized.

Last year Tausani Air was awarded a loan of $400,000 by the Development Bank of American Samoa, to help with the costs of acquiring an aircraft from Guam, where one of the principles of the company is from.

Airline officials stated at Fono hearings last year that the loan money went into refurbishing the Segaula aircraft which was inoperable

Filifaatali says the FAA hasn’t given any indication when a team can be here to inspect the aircraft.

He says everything is in order for their airline to take off except for an FAA license for Tausani to operate as a commercial carrier.

For now he says the aircraft can fly only on a non revenue basis.
