A delegation from Wallis & Futuna has completed talks with the Samoan government for the French territory to connect to the new undersea fiber optic cable owned by Samoa Submarine Cable Company (SSCC);

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ministry of Communication Information & Technology (MCIT) Tua’imalo Ah Samu told Talamua on line that the talks was a continuation from the first meeting between the parties in November last year.

He said Wallis & Futuna wants to capitalize on the Apia to Fiji spur which will be within close proximity to the islands.

Funding from the European Union will pay for the territory’s cable connection from SSCC.

Fiji has also shown interest in utilizing SSCC and according to Tua’imalo, since the cable runs close to Fiji’s largest islands of Vanua Levu and Viti Levu, Fiji wants to connect to the SSCC cable for better internet connection.

Samoa has yet to finalize the costs for these services .

The new undersea cable is expected to be on line by August –September 2017.
