Summer cultural program opens

Yesterday saw the start of the Jean P. Haydon Museum’s Summer Cultural Workshop for children.

This is one of the longest running summer programs which has been in existence for almost as along as the museum has been around.

It teaches children traditional arts and crafts and gives them an understanding of Samoan history and culture.
Under the tutelage of Museum staff the children learn weaving, tapa designs, carving, reading and how to perform the siva.

About 50 elementary level boys and girls showed up for the first day of the five week program yesterday and their enthusiasm to learn was evident.
