School’s Out, ASIA Begins with 11 Centers

Though school’s out, elementary school children were seen by roadside today as the Department of Education’s Samoan language program for the summer, Aoga Samoa i Alalafaga, got underway.

Instruction is from 8am to 12:30 pm and the number of centers where ASIA is conducted has risen this year to 11.

Deputy Director of Education Faauifono Vaitautolu says tomorrow will be the pre test to ascertain the students proficiency in oral and written Samoan.

Students from K5 to Grade 8 are receiving instruction in oral and written Samoan and math.

Each center also has their own added activities such as sports, siva and pese, to capture the students; interest.

Teachers who are instructors underwent training last month in order to  qualify to teach in the ASIA program.

This is the third year of the Samoan language program.

DOE is providing breakfast and lunch for the students during the 5 week program.
