While summer is a time for some to take a break from school, other students are taking the opportunity to continue learning.

Adrian Baqui and his younger brother Alijah, both students at Kanana Fou High school, will be attending the Summer Engineering Academy in Hawaii.

This will be Alijah’s first time taking the course while its his brother’s second.  .

The six week course offers students lab and engineering type assignments: mechanical, electrical and product engineering with mechatronics will be the main studies.

Lessons will be on structure, chemical processes, circuit design, computer programming, robotics as well as other engineering-related studies.

Science and mathematics are integrated into the course work..

The boys’ parents, John and Carol Baqui, landed scholarships for their sons on the world wide web.

And they want to share their knowledge with other parents looking for opportunities for their children.

Mrs. Baqui, a meteorologist at the National Weather service said, “We both know the importance of parents’ participation in their children’s education and life’s goals. Fields like Meteorology and Engineering are still an increasing interest to our Samoan children and it’s important for parents, staff, and schools, local Department of Education to be in full support of and make these subjects readily accessible and enticing to young people.”

Contact John and Carol Baqui at 733 0938 for more information on how to enroll your child.
