Governor’s Sunday Meeting Discusses Overtime

Overtime pay for the Department of Public Safety was the main topic of discussion at a special meeting that Governor Lolo Moliga called yesterday evening at the VIP lounge.

Among those present at the meeting were Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, the Treasurer, the commissioner of Public Safety and directors of Human Resources and Public Works, along with the deputy directors of Port Administration, Budget and Human Resources.

The governor is  said to have been  mainly concerned about the unpaid overtime of police officers and  according to two officials who were present, he gave instructions that every effort must be made to pay the outstanding overtime.

The discussion also included information about recent meetings between ASG officials and representatives of the Department of Labor concerning the DPS overtime.

According to Wage and Hour Division official Min Park who was here a week ago, DOL expects ASG to pay the outstanding overtime.

Commissioner Save Liuato told KHJ News in a previous interview that the overtime bill for DPS was around $300,000.

Other departments which have sizeable unpaid  overtime  include Public Works and Port Administration .
