Two members of the Lolo and Lemanu administration have filed claims for Worksman Compensation.

They are Director of Agriculture Lealao Melila Purcell and Director of Commerce Keniseli Lafaele.

As reported in the 2nd quarter performance report for the Department of Human Resources, Lealao’s claim against the Department of Agriculture is one of 22 new ones filed with the Worksman Compensation Board.

The other 8 claims against the government are filed by employees of the Department of Public Safety, Agriculture, American Samoa Power Authority, Sports Complex, Criminal Justice  and LBJ Hospital.

The rest of the claims are against local businesses and the two canneries, Star-Kist and Samoa Tuna Processors.

The claim by Director of Commerce Lafaele is listed in the second quarter performance report as pending due to medical assessment and claimants are off island.

There are 6 other claims  in the pending list and all are filed by ASG employees who worked for ASPA, DOE, Fire Division and Airport Division of Port Administration,  and LBJ Hospital.

According to the report six claims have been settled and approved for payment from Treasury.

These are Siaosi Siuloa vs DPS, Tusi Talolo vs Sports Complex, Amaata Aiava vs Public Health,  Uelese Titae vs DOE, Kim McFall vs DOE and Ite Matagia vs Public Works.

The report doesn’t give any information on how much the settled claims is costing.

There are seven claims by private sector employees which are approved for lump sum settlements between insurance companies and the claimants.

The Worksman Compensation program is fully locally funded  and covers ASG and private sector employees for injury or death compensation.

A Workmans Compensation board hears the claims  and decides the amounts to be paid out.
