Tausi Feagaiga Begins Training for Care Givers

At a ceremony Saturday evening at Hope House, a project to train caregivers for the elderly mothers and fathers titled, Tausi Feagaiga or Covenant Keeper was launched.

The training program is being funded by the Administration for Native Americans which awarded a five year grant to local non profit organization Pacific Youth and Community Development headed by Executive Director Tupua Roy Fua  and Project Director Toleafoa Kathryn Tupua,.

The leader of the Catholic Church which operates Hope House, Bishop Peter Brown, and members of the Hope House Board, led by Chairman David Robinson and Rep Larry Sanitoa attended the launching.

The Pacific Youth Development Board were present.

First Lady Cynthia Moliga also attended.

A five member team from the Job A Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii which is conducting the training, in consultation with a local team, arrived Friday and will be here for a week.

Today at the Fatuoaiga Auditorium a panel discussion brought out some of t e traditional expectations in the care of parents by their children.

The speakers were Bishop Peter Brown, attorney Toetasi Tuiteleleapaga, a member of the Pacific Youth and Community Development Board and Beatrice Block, Project Manager of Tausi Feagaiga.

Block talked about her experience looking after her grandmother for 5 years.
