Three time congressional candidate Tuaua Kereti Matautia says the negative impact of federal laws on American Samoa should not be reason for the territory to change its political status.

He says to look at other forms of government would be to question the wisdom of forefathers who ceded the islands of Tutuila , Aunuu, and Manua to the United States.

He says American Samoa has a unique form of government where democracy and the faa Samoa are interwoven and this has worked successfully for 116 years.

He does not see a need to change the political status just because laws imposed by the federal government are negatively impacting the territory.
