The weather is turning out to be a  factor in the Flag Day festivities but organizers are forging ahead.

The tents are up at Suiga ula o le Atuvasa for the Farm and Trade Fair and two food stalls were already set up when KHJ News checked out the venue early this morning.

The opening of the fair is scheduled for 10 am.

The National Weather Service is forecasting rainy weather today and tomorrow due to a surface trough that remains stationary over the Samoa group, which is expected to drift southeast slowly towards the end of the week.

Heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday flooded roads and felled trees which blocked the highway at Alega, Failolo and Fatu ma Futi, according to information from the Emergency Operations Center.

Public Works M&O crews cleared the debris which was blocking the road.

The rain also interrupted decorations for Flag Day though many private sector employees were oblivious to being drenched and continued to work in heavy downpour, Saturday.

The weather also delayed flights transporting sports teams from Samoa who are here for Sevens rugby, basketball, boxing and other events for Flag Day.

We checked in with the National Weather Service on how the seas will shape  up for tomorrow’s fautasi races.

The forecast, and this is just a forecast or prediction based on weather data available this morning, calls for rough seas and high surf remaining until tomorrow and gradually diminishing throughout the week.

The first qualifying heat for the long boat race is set for 8am and the second one should be getting underway at 10 am, weather permitting.
