Floats will be part of the parade for Flag Day on Monday, April 18 which will have the theme, “Our people, our culture, our future.”

Three ASG departments are providing floats for the celebration: the American Samoa Visitors Bureau, the Arts Council and the Department of Agriculture.

The Miss American Samoa Inc., sponsors of the Miss American Samoa Pageant, will also prepare a float.

Lt Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga said at yesterday’s cabinet meeting the  floats will display aspects of the Samoan culture, in alignment with the theme of the 116th Flag Day Celebration, “Our people, our culture, our future.”

Reigning Miss American Samoa, Suluga Taliau will be on one of the floats.

The Departnent of Agriculture says one of their floats will demonstrate farming and making the umu. ‘

The Flag Day Parade Committee is still accepting registration for the parade.

Director of Health Motusa Tuileama Nua said more than 30 groups including ASG departments and agencies had signed up for the parade as of yesterday.’

He reminds organizations and groups intending to march to register but at the same time he said registration is not mandatory, meaning if you show up on Flag Day morning at the Veterans Memorial Stadium, your group can still be part of the grand parade even if your didn’t sign up.

Motusa also invited departments who wish to put up a food stall that their permits will be free but they must pass an inspection by the American Samoa Environmental Protection Agency.

The opening church service for Fag Day is set for 3 pm, Sunday, April 17th at Lee Auditorium.

Rev. Elder Siaosi Mageo of the Calvary Chapel will lead the service and will also deliver the sermon.

Rev. Mageo, who has a regular Sunday morning program on television, is known for his thought provoking and biting sermons.

Assisting Rev. Elder Mageo is Rev. Liu Tofili of the Fagamalo Congregational Christian Church of American Samoa.

Hymns will be sung by the Congregational Church of Jesus in Samoa and Calvary Chapel choirs.
