Passengers booked to fly out on Hawaiian Air’s flight to Honolulu last night were unable to leave because the aircraft was damaged as it came in to land at Pago Pago International Airport last night

The plane touched down on time  last night  but according to local Station Manager Tuli Fruean there was a bird strike and a winged creature was sucked into the engine damaging it.

The aircraft made a safe landing, nonetheless,

But the bird caused damage to the engine which could not be fixed last night.  Thus the return flight to Honolulu was aborted.

Fruean says Hawaiian Air is ferrying  in another aircraft today arriving this afternoon to pick up passengers who could not leave last night, and also deliver a mechanic and parts from Honolulu to fix the damaged engine.

He says the return flight to Honolulu was to be a full flight.

The airline advises passengers departing for Honolulu that the new departure time is 3:40 this afternoon.

Check In Counters will open promptly at 11:00AM and close at 2:40PM says an announcement from Hawaiian Air.

Transportation Security Adminsitration security check point and immigration will open at 11:00AM and will close at 2:50PM.
