A possible date for Samoa’s parliament to convene after last week’s general election is next Friday, Samoa time.

Caretaker Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele is quoted by Talamua online saying that that’s when the positions of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime will be officially endorsed by Parliament.

Both positions have already been selected by the 44 members of the Human Rights Protection Party who were voted in.

Tuilaepa continues as Prime Minister and the deputy prime minister position goes to Fiame Naomi Mataafa.

Fonotoe Lauofo Pierre Meredith remains at caretaker deputy prime minister for the time being.

Tuilaepa said it is the party’s normal practice to select the party leaders after the general election.

Talamua reports that in the voting for the second in command, Fiame Naomi Mata’afa was a few votes ahead of Faumuina Tiatia Liuga, who was forced out as Finance Minister in the previous government amid corruption allegations.
