There was running, dancing , laughing and sharing at the launch of Disabilities Awareness Month at the Suigaula o le Atuvasa yesterday.
The highly visible launch was indicative of the major push that agencies serving our special population are planning for the next 30 days.
The aim is to promote understanding among able bodied and minded residents of the needs and rights of those with special conditions and vice versa
And to highlight services that are available from government, and non government organizations for the special children, youth and elderly.
Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga lent support for better understanding among leaders of government, churches, villages and families of those with special needs.
The keynote speaker and faifeau was Uaea Satele, who is blind.

Special Olympians including medal winners at the Special Olympics in LA last year ran a relay, Josephine Stanley who is wheel cheer bound read the governor’s proclamation of Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month and balloons were released into the air during the launch.
Deputy Director of the Office for the Protection and Advocacy for the Disabled Tapumanaia Galu Satele emceed the fun filled event.
