This year is one of the most important years in the history of the National Park Service: it’s the national parks 100th birthday!

To kick off the yearlong celebration, staff and volunteers of the National Park of American Samoa will host a wave on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 7am in Utulei.

The public is invited to honk, wave and show support for the local national park service. Park staff will be available to answer questions and provide brochures.

The National Park of American Samoa will be participating in and hosting a variety of festivities in the upcoming months as part of the big birthday.

This includes Flag Day, April 18th, National Trails Day: June 4th, and the National Park Service Anniversary: August 25th.

As part of the centennial, the National Park Service has launched a public campaign entitled “Find Your Park.”

Visitors can share their experiences with the National Park of American Samoa by posting on social media using #FindYourPark.

The National Park of American Samoa joined the National Park Service family in 1988 to preserve and protect coral reefs, tropical rainforests, fruit bats and the Samoan culture for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

National park lands and waters in Tutuila, Ta’u and Ofu islands are leased from villages and the American Samoa Government through a long-term agreement with the National Park Service.
