Hooray! Twenty-Two Sign Letters of Intent

There were smiles all around when 22 high school seniors signed letters of intent with US college and universities that have offered them football scholarships.

You heard there Rachel Jennings announcing the exact hour when scholar athletes across the nation also signed letters of intent .

signing groupThe National Signing Day for American Samoa, hosted by the American Samoa High School Athletic Association, started at 6am in the conference room of the Early Childhood Education Center in Utulei.

And the lucky students who signed today are:

  • Adiel Haleck, Heston Lameta, Dixon Siuele, Pesalei Poufa, Scheyenne Sanitoa and Vaatofu Sauvao of Samoana High School;
  • Alexander Sunia-Leone High school;
  • Brandon Johnson, Joseph Faatiga and Kevin Maukoloa of Nu’uuli Voc Tech,
  • Edward Manase, Frederick Mauigoa, and Leti Paaga of Tafuna High School,
  • George Tafua, Gus Poyer, Iverson Moana, Lafaele Simau, LJ Te’o, Oly Taase, and Robert Ieti of Fagaitua High School; and
  • Leonard Sagapolutele and Viane Moala of Faasao Marist High School.

signing parentsFrederick Mauigoa of Tafuna received the most offers-eight universities and colleges made him offers, Edward Manase also of Tafuna received 5, while three student scholars received offers from four colleges: Alesander Sunia of Leone, Scheyenne Sanitoa of Samoana and Viane Moala of Faasao Marist.

The proud parents of the players and  their coaches, were present along with Director of Education Vaitinasa Dr Salu Hunkin Finau, Athletic Director of DOE Tumua Matuu and officials of ASHAA led by President Elvis Liufau.

In her remarks, Director Vaitinasa congratulated the players, their parents and coaches.

She also thanked ASHAA officials and the Executive Director of JPS Hawaii, Robert Faleafine and Governor Lolo Moliga who made it possible for the American Samoa All Star Seniors to participate in the recent JPS Hawaii Classic, resulting in the high number of offers that they have received.

She said the athletic talents of our students is unquestioned but the drawback is their academic abilities.

She urged parents to push their sons and daughters to do well in academics just as they do in sports.

All of the scholar athletes also expressed their thanks to their parents, coaches, and DOE for giving them the opportunities which have resulted in their scholarship offers.
