Aumua Congratulates 1st Woman President of Taiwan

Congresswoman Aumua Amata sent a letter of congratulations to the first female president of Taiwan recognizing her historic election to the highest office in Taiwan.

The congresswoman said,”I wani to congratulate Dr. Tsai Ing-Wen, President Elect of Taiwan, and the people of Taiwan for their historic election on January 16th.

“This vote shows a clear strengthening of democracy in Taiwan and serves as an example to the rest of Asia.”

The first woman ever elected as President of Taiwan, Dr. Tsai Ing-Wen won by a large margin, and is expected to increase ties between the United States and Taiwan, after years of the Pro-China government.

The congresswoman said she’s excited for this new chapter of relations between the United States and its longtime ally and friend, Taiwan.

She said she knows that under President Elect Ing-Wen’s leadership, Taiwan will continue to uphold its commitment and shine brightly as a beacon for human rights, democracy, and freedom.
