House Rejects Drabble, Moves for Reconsideration

Businessman Thomas Drabble, owner of Sadie’s by the Sea, Sadie Thompson Inn, Transpac and other local businesses, did not garner enough votes to be confirmed as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Samoa Visitors Bureau.

Ten representatives supported his nomination, one vote short of what’s needed for confirmation.

There were five nay votes.

Right after the vote, all faipule present raised their hands in support of a motion for reconsideration of Drabble’s nomination.
The House will vote a second time on Drabble tomorrow.

The hotel owner was among four of the 6 board members nominated by the governor for the ASVB Board who attended confirmation hearings this morning before the House Government Operations Committee.

The other three nominees were confirmed.

Deputy Director of Commerce Uili Leauanae was passed 14-1, current board chairman Roy J.D. Hall Jr, was approved 13-2, and Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs Tuiagamoa Tavai was given unanimous approval.

The remaining two board members, Tuli Fruean and Mrs Betty Cavanaugh are off island.
